March’s Helpful Tips

Prune roses, buddleia, corneous, hydrangea and other shrubs and climbers that need it

Plant summer bulbs, such as dahlias and lilies, in pots and borders

Sow tomatoes, chillies, peppers, aubergines, carrots, spinach, salad and other hardy or half-hardy veg and flowers indoors or under cover

Feed ericaceous plants, such as rhododendrons and camellias, with a suitable fertiliser

Mulch borders and beds with compost or other organic matter to suppress weeds and retain moisture

Hoe bare soil and remove any weeds by hand

Protect young plants from frost and pests with cloches, fleece or netting

Plant strawberries, herbs, asparagus, onion sets, shallots, potatoes and Jerusalem artichokes

Tidy up alpines, spring bulbs and winter bedding plants

Make a bug hotel to attract beneficial insects to your garden

I hope this list helps you plan your gardening activities for March. 🌷🌼🌻
